Story Idea, Theme, Inspiration

The very first thing a writer needs when starting a book is an idea. Inspiration for this idea can come from anywhere, a dream, a song, conversation, game, etc. As long as it isn't an exact copy of another book you are ready, otherwise that is plagiarism and wrong......

Anywho,

Ideas come in all shapes and sizes. Some will be the plot or story concept. Other ideas will be a scene or character. For example:
(don't own)
This is a beautiful necklace. It could be a family heirloom or gift given by a warlock. We'll go with the heirloom idea.

Write the idea down and then start thinking about ideas that could do with it.
For example: The necklace has been hidden in the royal family vault for centuries, but one day the King finds it and gives it to his daughter
(don't own)

Keep the story going by asking yourself questions.
What does the necklace do?
Why was it hidden?
Why was the King able to find it?
Does this make the daughter special?

What if the necklace gave her the power to
(don't own)
control snow?

Why don't you try writing this story? Or create your own idea?
I'd love to hear them!
